Music theory is the study of working of music. The music theory evaluates the language and notation of music. Music theory analyzes the fundamental parameters of music such as rhythm, harmony, melody, structure, form, texture, etc. Music theory may include any statement, or conception of music. The person who studies the properties of music is known as music theorists. Music has many fundamental elements. These include pitch, beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, etc. Other important concepts included in the music are scales and modes. Pitch is sensation of music generally the lowness or highness of a sound. The perception of pitch depends on a various factors such as the interaction of frequencies within the harmony and the roughness produced by the fast beating. The difference in frequency between two successive pitches is called intervals.

Notes for music can be arranged into different scales and modes. Rhythm is the arrangement of sounds and silences in certain time. The time signature defines how many beats are in a measure. Syncopated rhythms are the rhythms that inflect unexpected parts of the beat. Polymeter is the thing that plays simultaneous rhythms in more than one time signature. Consonance is defined as harmonies whose tones increase each other’s resonance. Dissonance is defined as those harmonies that create more complex acoustical interactions. A melody is a sequence of tones sounding in succession. The tones are systematically created with respect to pitch systems. The rhythm of a melody is based on the intonation of the language.

The elements of a melody are including pitch, duration, dynamics and timbre. The art of writing melody is depending on the choices of tones for the harmonic character. Musical texture is the overall sound of a piece of music. Articulation is the method in which the musician applies their techniques to execute sounds or notes. This is a reasons for the studying of music theory. Music theory makes a person learning, practicing and performing much easier. All activities related to music will be much easier. If a musician knows music theory well, then performing, composing, improvising, arranging, teaching music will be much easier. The first thing to know about music theory is notation. The next other things are scales, modes and chords. The chord is referred as a larger structure involving more than two pitches. If anyone learned all of the above mentioned things, then they will have a firm grasp of music theory.
