Paul Masterson DJ
Style: Thumpin' House / Hard House & Trance
Three Top 10 hits under his belt and a total 11 Top 30 hits. Many a successful alias, most noticeably the HI GATE project with Judge Jules on Incentive, his brainchild YOMANDA on Manifesto and recently THE CLERGY on doublef doubler. PAUL MASTERSON is without doubt, one of dance music's most successful DJ/producers/remixers and could so easily be crowned 'King of the Dancefloor Anthem'. With gigs across the UK and Ibiza you'd think he'd be busy enough but his studio in North London is one of the busiest in town, hosting a melting pot of ideas and many a big name. With his top-ten fingertips, Paul is established as one of the most sought after producers in the industry and his latest alias SUSHI is set to follow the success of the rest.
SUSHI has recently been signed to the successfully renowned NU LIFE label under the BMG umbrella and completes Paul's record deals with all of the world's major labels - VIRGIN, WARNER, UNIVERSAL and MINISTRY. "Paul is one of the most talented and respected blokes in the industry. His production quality is second to none and his DJ-ing never fails to explode a crowd." JUDGE JULES
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Paul was DJing and producing his own records by the age of sixteen. He soon arrived in London and began producing and remixing under the name WAND leading on to the outrageous SLEAZE SISTERS, enjoying his first chart success.
A fortuitous meeting with DJ Rachel Auburn led to the formation of Euro dance outfit CANDY GIRLS. The partnership enjoyed Top 10 success in dance and national charts throughout Europe, with tracks such as, 'Fe Fi Fo Fum', 'Wam Bam' and 'I Want Candy' (#1 in all the club charts).
After this success, Paul's remixing career began to rocket and alongside this, he went on to form the internationally renowned, AMEN UK. The first Amen UK project, 'Passion' stormed the chart and became one of the dance music's seminal moments.
Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Paul moved on and the mighty YOMANDA was born. The first release 'Synth And Strings' spent 2 months on the Radio 1 'A' List and received unprecedented support from the likes of Judge Jules, Pete Tong and Dave Pearce. 'Synths And Strings' crashed into the national chart Top 10 and became a dancefloor anthem. Judge Jules and Paul, North London neighbours, became firm friends and formed one of the hottest production teams around. Jules co-wrote 'Sunshine' with Paul, which became the next Top 20 hit for YOMANDA.
The Masterson / Jules collaboration became unstoppable with the formation of HI GATE and their debut single 'Pitchin (In Every Direction)' which stormed to #6 in the National chart. The productive partnership led to another YOMANDA hit, 'On The Level' which flew straight into the Top 30. This was closely followed by HI GATE, 'I Can Hear Voices' - a beautifully crafted song that became a favourite with clubbers across the UK and Ibiza, shooting straight into the national charts at #12.
As a prolific remixer, Paul has brought his distinctive style to artists as diverse as FIVE, GERI HALLIWELL, KYLIE MINOGUE, KELE LE ROC and M-PEOPLE. Paul has worked his magic on all these artists and many more, giving them the invaluable added profile of a club chart smash hit prior to a commercial release. Also numerous dance artists including TOMBA VIRA, DJ JEAN, LOCK 'N' LOAD, MARIO PIU, PERFECT PHASE and QUO VADIS have all benefited from the Masterson Midas touch.
As a DJ, Paul is highly in demand. Crowds with preconceived ideas about the set they can expect from this 'chart star' are always surprised by the versatile, up front musical style with which they are presented. Paul's mission is to set every dance floor rocking with his own unique brand of hard trance. Residencies have included PROGRESS in Derby, TIME in Norwich, FREEDOM @ Bagley's in London and guest appearances at PRIVILEGE, ES PARADIS, DAVE PEARCE'S DANCE ANTHEMS and Judge Jules' JUDGEMENT SUNDAY in Ibiza. Paul's DJing schedule is extremely hectic including international popularity in US, Japan and Canada in particular.
One of Paul's personal highlights to date was playing live on Radio 1 in front of 35,000 people for the NYE celebrations in Glasgow. To crown these achievements, Paul was asked to mix the Ministry of Sound album 'Hard Energy' alongside other Irish jock FERGIE. Ministry of Sound radio is also a big fan of Paul's, dedicating regular and exclusive slots to him on their popular digital station.
With the much-awaited HI GATE album to be released, the rise of SUSHI, the launch of his own label YOU CLASH! RECORDS and a constant demand for DJing sets from all over the world, it looks like the uniquely talented Paul Masterson is going to be around for a long time yet.
